*EURweb caught up with super producer Timbaland over the weekend (12-10-16) in Hollywood at Remy Martin’s season 3 “Producers Series” finale and EUR associate Jay Styles was there to get the exclusive with the four-time Grammy winner, as he cleared up the “I don’t think we have producers anymore” comments he made in an Hot 97 radio interview back in January.
“I don’t think we have producers anymore, I think we have great programmers. Beats are not made how we use to do them; I think they come as a package. The looping is for you to figure out which program to run it through to trick it out and make something that once was something totally different. I take patterns, layers and blend the colors. People don’t even know how to make their own snares anymore.” – Timbaland
The record producer received a lot of backlash for those comments in particular from his fellow producers and associates. When EUR asked him if he still stood by those comments, he decided to “clear the air” once and for all.
“No, I don’t stand by that. I understand the digital world; I just did not understand the digital world coming from the analog world. To me, the biggest thing like Metro Boomin [producer], I feel like his sound is so unique to me; 808 Mafia [producers] sound is so unique and before it was me not understanding the digital world. When you understand the digital world, it’s no different from the analog world; so it’s about making sound and being creative and those guys are very creative and all the people doing it, is creative, Timbaland said.”
Remy Martin’s “Producers Series” West Coast Finale hosted by Charlamagne Tha God, gives up and coming producers a chance to learn from some of the industry’s best producers and compete for the top spot in the competition. Compton’s own Buckmouth Beatz took home the crown in the elimination style beat battle and will have the opportunity to work with Timbaland.
