*Whoopi Goldberg was blindsided with an outpouring of love on Thursday’s episode of “The View.”
As part of Worlds AIDS Day, the actress was given the Elizabeth Taylor Legacy Award for her humanitarian work in raising awareness for the disease. The honor turned out to be a complete surprise that brought Whoopi to tears.
First, co-host Sara Haines surprised her with a video tribute, which included messages from Colin Farrell, Lionel Richie, and Elton John. “You and I knew Elizabeth very well,” John said in the video. “You stood up with Elizabeth and lent your voice to the fight when no one else would.”
At the end of the tribute, John announced that Goldberg would receive the Elizabeth Taylor Legacy Award, much to her surprise.
Four of Taylor’s grandchildren emerged and presented an emotional Goldberg with the award. Taylor’s grandson Quinn Tivey also announced a $4 million joint partnership between the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation and PEPFAR (President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) to benefit Malawi.
