*The man who was killed by a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer in September was shot once in the back, according to an official autopsy report released Monday.
The report states that Keith Lamont Scott, 43, was shot three times, once in the posterior chest, once in the abdomen and once in the left arm. Abrasions and lacerations were also reported in by the medical examiner.
The toxicology report in the case shows Scott was on a number of sedatives/anticonvulsant drugs at the time of his death including Amantadine, Diazepam, Gabapentin, Nordiazepam and Promethazine.
Scott’s September 20, 2016 shooting, captured on video, sparked days of protests in the city after his family said he was unarmed.
Scott’s wife blames race for his death and does not believe that police are telling the truth about the African American officer who shot her husband. She also publicly stated that her husband was shot unfairly.
Police, however, claim that he had a handgun and Chief Kerr Putney said at the time he would release evidence that would constitute “indisputable evidence” supporting that.
According to Putney, officers said they saw a weapon and marijuana in Scott’s car while they were doing surveillance for an unrelated warrant.
The chief said Scott ignored repeated commands to drop the weapon.
