*It was a straight up love fest this afternoon at North Carolina’s Wake Forest University, as Michelle Obama and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton shared a stage for the first time during the 2016 campaign.
Not only did they speak highly of each other, the current and former first ladies tag teamed against GOP nominee Donald Trump…though FLOTUS still didn’t mention his name.
“We want a president who takes this job seriously and who has the temper and maturity to do it well,” Obama told the raucous crowd of about 11,000 in Winston-Salem, “someone who’s steady, someone we can trust with the nuclear codes.”
In Clinton, “We have never had a more qualified and prepared candidate for president,” the first lady said, citing her work as a lawyer, secretary of State and senator. “And yes, she happens to be a woman.”
Obama also took a moment to address rumored tensions between the Clintons and the Obamas from the 2008 campaign. “If people are wondering, yes, Hillary Clinton is my friend,” she said, noting that the Clintons were “embracing and supportive” from the day President Obama took office.

Speaking before the first lady, Clinton praised Mrs. Obama, saying she “Let’s be real, as our first African-American first lady, she’s faced pressures I never did, and she’s handled them with pure grace. By any standard she has been an outstanding first lady who has made us all so proud.”
Toward the end of her North Carolina speech Thursday, FLOTUS tried to drive home the importance of voting in this particular election.
“This is not about Republicans versus Democrats. None of that matters this time,” she said. “No, no, no, this election is about something much bigger. It’s about who will shape our children and the country we lead.”
Obama also made a more personal appeal to women and minorities in the audience by reminding them of the fight for voting rights by their ancestors.
“They endured beatings and jail time, they sacrificed their lives for those rights,” she said.
“Casting our vote is the ultimate way we go high,” she added.
