*Coolio was charged Thursday with possession of a firearm by a felon with two priors, the Los Angeles Country District Attorney’s Office announced.
The old school rapper, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey, was arrested on Sept. 17 after a loaded handgun was found in a carry-on bag during security screening at Los Angeles International Airport.
TSA detained a man who claimed the bag was his, but upon further investigation, it tuned out that the bag contained items that belonged to the man’s traveling companion who already dipped through security and boarded a plane. Officers later identified that other man as Artis Leon Ivey of Las Vegas.
The man with the carry-on bag was released. Coolio, 53, was tracked down and booked on suspicion of possession of a firearm by a felon.
Coolio has previous convictions for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle in 2001 and drug possession in 2009.
The rapper faces up to three years in prison if convicted of the charge.
