*A Bronx charter school teacher accused of beating, robbing a 16-year-old student over a drug deal gone awry, allegedly threatened the teen’s mom with rape, The New York Daily News reports.
Kevin Pope, a science teacher at John V. Lindsay Wildcat Academy in Hunts Point, punched the teen in the face, knocking him into a glass window of a local business.
“You better get my money,” the 48-year-old teacher said to the teen after Wednesday’s altercation. “You know where I work.”
He then threatened the boy’s mother while inflicting several blows to the teen, which resulted in him having to receive three staples to close several deep wounds on the back of his head after the beating.
“Do you want to die?” Pope allegedly shouted at the teen. “You want to steal from me? I should break your arm … I should get someone to rape your mom every day after work.”

The whole ordeal was captured on surveillance video. Pope was released without bail Sept. 24 after his lawyer claimed the student stole his briefcase containing $5,000 in cash. According to reports, Pope agreed to pay $4,000 for roughly a pound of weed, possibly with the intention of selling the dope. The transaction collapsed when the drug dealer demanded $7,000 — and the student walked away with the cash. When Pope didn’t receive his money back, he decided to settle the debt by allegedly stealing the teen’s wallet, gold chains and iPhone during the brawl, according to law officials.
Bronx Judge Harold Adler ordered Pope to stay clear of the teen and his mom. Adler was also skeptical that Kevin randomly had $5,000 cash in a suitcase while riding public transportation.
Kevin Pope has been charged with assault, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and robbery.
