*In the first game since the sudden death of Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez, Dee Gordon hit what has to be the most memorable home run of the 2016 baseball season.

Fernandez, who died in a boating accident on Sunday (Sept. 25) along with two others, was honored prior to Monday’s game with the Mets – just one day after news of his tragic death.

Gordon led off the bottom of the first inning for Miami, impersonating Fernandez’s batting stance from the right side of the plate. Gordon then moved to his natural left side — and proceeded to hit the ball out of the park.

Gordon called his leadoff homer (also his first of the season) the “best moment of my life.”

“I don’t know how any of us got out there and played today,” Gordon told FOX Sports Florida after the game.

Of his home run, Gordon said, “Man, I told the boys if yall don’t believe in God, yall might as well start. I don’t have kids, so that’s the best moment of my life, hitting a home run for [Fernandez].”
