*Steven Caple Jr. has been tapped to write HBO’s upcoming miniseries on Emmett Till from a stellar producing team that includes Jay Z, Will Smith, Casey Affleck and Aaron Kaplan, reports Variety.

The untitled mini, currently in development, will tell the heartbreaking story of 14-year-old black teenager Emmett Till, who was brutally murdered after allegedly whistling at a white woman in Mississippi in 1955. His brutal murder galvanized the burgeoning civil rights movement.

Caple will write a script based on the book Emmett Till: The Murder That Shocked The World And Propelled The Civil Rights Movement by Devery Anderson.

The project is being executive produced by Roc Nation’s Jay Z, Jay Brown and Ty Ty Smith, Overbrook Entertainment’s Will Smith and James Lassiter, Kapital Entertainment’s Aaron Kaplan, The Affleck Middleton Project’s Casey Affleck and John Middleton, Serendipity Film Group’s Rosanna Grace, as well as Alex Foster and David Clark.

Caple wrote and directed “The Land,” about skateboarders caught in the drug world of his native Cleveland. The film, his feature debut, was selected for the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and was acquired by IFC Films.
