*It appears that Donald Trump is lining up some possible excuses in the event he becomes exposed during the first presidential debate, now less than a week away.
During an appearance on “The O’Reilly Factor” on Fox News Monday, he labeled the presidential debates a “phony system” and took aim for the first time at “NBC Nightly News” anchor Lester Holt, who will moderate the first of three face-offs with Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
Trump called Holt a “professional” and said that he respected him, but he said that supporters of Clinton were “gaming the system” and “trying to intimidate” Holt into being tough on him.
Trump cited how critics roasted Matt Lauer for his performance at the recent Commander in Chief Forum.
“They are gaming the ref, that is what they are doing,” Trump said of his scheduled debates.
Trump called Holt a “Democrat” as well as the moderators of the second presidential debate, Anderson Cooper and Martha Raddatz. “They’re all Democrats,” Trump said.
The first debate will be held at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., on Sept. 26.
