Stephen Curry, Colin Kaepernick *Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry was recently asked on CNBC about the Colin Kaepernick situation, and he did not hesitate to give Kaepernick’s efforts a stamp of approval.

Transcript via Blue Man Hoop:

I love that there’s freedom of speech and he can stand up for what he believes in. There’s going to be people that disagree with him and there’s going to be people that agree with him which is what I think our country stands for. Which hopefully will drive the conversation to bettering the equal rights and treatment of African-Americans and people of color. So I applaud him for taking a stand and hopefully the conversation is about what his message was and not ‘is he going to stand or is he going to sit for the national anthem’ or whoever it is. The conversation is started and should continue.

The two-time reigning NBA MVP also went on to highlight the $1 million Kaepernick has pledged to give to charities and organizations that aid communities in need, msn.com reports.

“I hope that all resources and conversations and intellect across the country will be able to figure out a way to make that million dollars as powerful as it can be … He’s on the right track,” Curry says.

As cbs.com reports, various athletes and other NFL players are starting to follow Kaepernick’s example in kneeling to protest the same issues. Kevin Durant has also   followed Curry’s lead in backing the 49ers quarterback.

“I’m behind anyone who stands up for what they believe in,” Durant said. “Colin Kaepernick is standing up for what he believes in. That’s what makes our country so great, right? You have the luxury to do so. He was unapologetic about it and, in his defense, I don’t think he was trying to disrespect anyone. I think he was trying to get his point across. I’m all for anyone who wants to do that. As athletes, we have this huge platform. A lot of people are watching at all times. Sometimes it may not be what you do, they like. But if you feel like it’s gonna be impactful, that’s on you. I feel like everyone should stand up for what they believe.”

The 49ers open the regular season at home against the Rams on Monday Night Football Sept. 12.
