Melanesians Have Blond Hair and Dark Skin; Many Argue They’re Not of African Descent (VIDEO/PHOTOS)

*The people of Melanesia have dark skin like those from the African diaspora, but they also have blonde hair which provides a reason for some to vehemently argue (rather ignorantly, some would add) that Melanesians have no connection to the motherland. That sentiment is encapsulated in the emotional response to the above video by YouTuber Rayme Peter:

“Attention Attention you fu*king white washed African Americans! These people are and will never be Africans ?????? Distance travel from Melanesian to Africa (west and south) 20 hours ! Distance boat 80 hours !! Days would be 2 weeks!! That’s how far apart they are! Distance from the pacific islands to Africa is just far far away! Stop claiming them as Africans! They black but they hate it when white washed African Americans calls them Africans which their not! These people are only related to the Micronesians (sic) and Polynesians! And I’m half Micronesian”

Well Rayme Peter, based on the article below found at Wikipedia, your argument just doesn’t hold up:

The people of Melanesia have a distinctive ancestry. Along with the aboriginal inhabitants of Australia, they are believed to derive from the Proto-Australoids who emigrated from Africa between 50,000 and 100,000 years ago and dispersed along the southern edge of Asia, giving rise to Australoid populations in various places, including South India, Sri Lanka, the Andaman Islands, the Philippines, and others. The limit of this ancient migration was Sahul, the continent formed when Australia and New Guinea were united by a land bridge as a result of low sea levels. The first migration into Sahul came over 40,000 years ago. A further expansion into the eastern islands of Melanesia came much later, probably between 4000 B.C. and 3000 B.C.

Particularly along the north coast of New Guinea and in the islands north and east of New Guinea, the Austronesian people, who had migrated into the area somewhat more than 3,000 years ago,[8] came into contact with these pre-existing populations of Papuan-speaking peoples. In the late 20th century, some scholars theorized a long period of interaction, which resulted in many complex changes in genetics, languages, and culture among the peoples.[9] This Polynesian theory, however, is contradicted by the findings of a genetic study published by Temple University in 2008. It found that neither Polynesians nor Micronesians have much genetic relation to Melanesians. It appeared that, having developed their sailing outrigger canoes, the ancestors of the Polynesians migrated from East Asia, moved through the Melanesian area quickly on their way, and kept going to eastern areas, where they settled. They left little genetic evidence in Melanesia.

  1. I find Rayme Peter, an alleged half Micronesian, response interesting. Here we have someone vehemently denying any relations between Melanesians and Africans, even though it’s OBVIOUS that they are the same.
So in essence, this guys is really down with Africans, even though he is too confused and prejudiced to realize it.

It’s really the dilemma that whites find themselves in. They try so hard to disassociate themselves from blacks, even though science proves conclusively, that they are our out of Africa descendants.

  2. I too love blonde hair. My hair was dyed platinum blonde for over 25 years. I only stopped because of a chemical burn. Plus, 48 yr old men shouldn’t dye their hair blonde, maybe black.. Hello!!!!

  3. He must doesn’t know that there was a earth quake that divided the continents into where they are now so they more then likely didn’t travel by boat if all the continents were connected. Furthermore its sad how people hate themselves so much your African honey get over it its a blessing to be black, love your melanin sweetly. White people can’t even exist in hot places, have you seen the blisters on their skin when out in the sun too long? Exactly they are from cold regions they can’t handle nor were they made to exist in heat.

  4. To classify Melanesians as African Descendants would be the same as classifying Europeans as African Descendants or anyone else, for that matter. It’s that 50,000-70,000 mark where humans started to spread from Africa (origin of humans). That includes those who would later become White Europeans. If one is to say EVERY human is African Descendant, then classifying Melanesians as African would be accurate.

The blond hair in Melanesians is caused by a mutation that is unrelated to the reason you find blond hair in White Europeans.

      • OMG, do DNA test LOL, Malenesians are AUSTROLOID! they are the OLDEST indigerous group in S.E ASIA AND oceania, been around for more than 20,000 years. Homo-sapiens came from Africa continent doesn’t make everybody Africans! Malenesians are related to AUSSIE indigenous people and possibly the JOMONS in ancient Japan island, but Jomons have fair skin, because they were seperated more than 10,000 years ago, before the sea level rised and drown majority of South East Asia that used to be one piece of dry land connected to ASIA continent.

  5. I dont Care what you write. I know an African when I see one. Melanesians are simply Africans, full stop.

There has been diverse kinds of technologies and movement over thousands of years, and they were not restricted by the present day Visa applications that you have today. They simply emigrated conveniently and created their own worlds.

Discovery did not start today, neither will it end any time soon.
