*After eight seasons of his popular Logo TV series “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” its host has at last earned an Emmy award – the first for both RuPaul and the series.

“Earlier this year I was quoted saying I’d rather have an enema than an Emmy,” RuPaul Charles said while accepting his Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program trophy. “But thanks to the Television Academy, I can have both!”

Dressed in a pink suit with white polka dots, RuPaul upset competitors Steve Harvey, “American Idol’s” Ryan Seacrest, the category’s two-time defending champ Jane Lynch of “Hollywood Game Night,” Tom Bergeron of “Dancing With the Stars” and previous winners Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn of “Project Runway” at Sunday’s Creative Arts Emmys.

Backstage, RuPaul told reporters: “I came here thinking, ‘Wow, I got invited to the prom and I’m going to dance my ass off tonight. I didn’t expect I was going to have this in my hand for the dance.”

Charles also coined a phrase by saying he and the show deserved “condragulations.” He said Drag Race represents “the tenacity of the human spirit” and hopes it will help young people “navigate their own unique stories.”

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” has been renewed by Logo for a ninth season.
