*Seattle Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane sat during the national anthem in the team’s last preseason game against the Raiders to express solidarity with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Wide receiver Doug Baldwin and other Seahawks have hinted that they might do the same throughout the season.
On Thursday, Baldwin tweeted that the team has collectively decided to “honor the country and flag in a pregame demonstration of unity” before Sunday’s home opener against the Miami Dolphins.
Just what that “demonstration of unity” entails remains to be seen.

Baldwin provided no further explanation of the tweet.
The receiver said he’s spoken to Kaepernick via mutual friend and former Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette. Kaepernick either sat or knelt down during the national anthem throughout the preseason to protest racial inequality in America.
Baldwin told reporters Wednesday he wasn’t sure yet if he would sit or stand during the anthem during their home opener Sunday against Miami, saying he needed “to make sure I get all of my ducks in a row” before making a decision.
“Honestly I’m praying a lot about it, moreso leaning on my faith and trying to get the right direction in that regard,” Baldwin said.
Also, linebacker Bobby Wagner suggested Wednesday that multiple Seahawks players have discussed some sort of action en masse.
Wagner told the Seattle Times: “Anything we want to do, it’s not going to be individual. It’s going to be a team thing. That’s what the world needs to see. The world needs to see people coming together versus being individuals.”
He added, “Whatever we decide to do will be a big surprise.”
