*Taye Diggs is calling out former NFL player Rodney Harrison for his initial “he’s not black” criticism of Colin Kaepernick, saying it’s the same language that slave masters used to divide slaves on the plantation.
Before Harrison apologized for not realizing that Kaep is biracial, he spoke out against the 49ers quarterback, saying, “I tell you this, I’m a black man. And Colin Kaepernick, he’s not black. He cannot understand what I face and what other young black men and black people face, or people of color face, on a every single (day) basis.”
Diggs, the father of a biracial son, slammed Harrison’s assumption that Kaepernick couldn’t understand the hardships of African Americans.
“I’m still baffled at the idea that one person is justified in telling another person what suffering is, regardless of race or hue or skin or anything else. No one can or should speak on anyone’s experience unless they are that person or have walked in their shoes,” Diggs said in a statement to TMZ Sports.
“When there can be so much negativity coming at African-Americans from so many directions, why do we continue to fight each other?” he added. “Dare I say it’s the same divisive perspective used by slave owners between black workers in the field and lighter workers in the house. It worked back then, must we continue to let it work now?”
