Lyin’ Ryan Lochte Speaks on Rio Scandal: ‘I Over-exaggerated That Story’ (WATCH)

*Olympic gold medal winner  Ryan Lochte sat down with NBC’s Matt Lauer and said: “I over-exaggerated that story.” Umm, yes you did, to say the least.

Last Sunday he told the network’s Billy Bush that he and three of his USA swimming teammates (Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen) were robbed at gunpoint.

“All we know was there was a gun pointed at our direction, and we were demanded to give money,” he told Lauer during the Saturday taping of the interview. “We just wanted to get out of there. There was a a gun pointed at our direction. We were frightened.”

Lauer then pressed Lochte to clarify the two drastically different accounts that have emerged:

The first version during a phone interview where Lochte, 32, said: “We are victims here.”

But even the the second more truthful account seems to indicate that Lochte and his pals caused damage, and then were forced to pay money as a result.

Lauer: “You were striking a deal …a negotiated settlement to cover up some dumb behavior.”

Lochte: “I over exaggerated that story. If I didn’t do that, we wouldn’t be in this mess… none of this would’ve happened it was my immature behavior.”

The 12-time Olympic medalist got particularly teary-eyed when responding how he felt being back in the U.S., while Brazil police interrogated his teammates.

“I let my team down,” Lochte said.
