*Watching Usain Bolt run just does something to people…whether it’s the fans in Rio who go into fits every time his face appears on the stadium screen, or a woman in her living room standing in front of her TV screen clanging him on to victory with metal lids.

As the World’s Fastest Man was motoring toward his third consecutive 200 meter gold medal Thursday night, somebody’s mama from Bolt’s birthplace of Jamaica was being brought to ecstasy…

With three Olympic gold medals in both the 100m and 200m, Bolt became the third athlete in Olympic history to win two individual events at three Olympics, joining Michael Phelps and Ray Ewry.

Andre De Grasse, the Canadian sprinter who ran up on a smiling, finger-wagging Bolt in his semifinal heat, finished second in 20.02 seconds.

Afterwards, Bolt declared it his last individual race at the Olympics ahead of his retirement next year. He can add another medal in the 4×100 relay final on Friday. The Canadians also qualified.

“I’ve proven to the world I’m the greatest. This is what I came here for. That’s what I’m doing. This is why I said this is my last Olympics — I can’t prove anything else,” said Bolt.

“What else can I do to prove to the world I am the greatest?” he added. “I am trying to be one of the greatest. Be among [Muhammad] Ali and Pelé. I hope to be in that bracket after these Games.”
