Eddie Murphy and Lizzo Repped Black Designers for SNL Performances

Published

*Eddie Murphy’sSaturday Night Live” return was a massive success, giving the 44-year-old sketch comedy show its best ratings since 2017.

We previously reported… Saturday’s SNL averaged 9.921 million viewers, the best since Melissa McCarthy hosted the season finale in May 2017, which drew 10.382 million viewers, per Forbes.com.

SNL helped launched Murphy’s career and his last appearance was in 1984. The comedian reprised some of his landmark characters for his return to the late-night comedy show’s stage, including Mr. Robinson, Gumby and Buckwheat. He was joined during his opening monologue by Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock and Tracy Morgan.

Lizzo was the musical guest and both she and Murphy wore Black designers for their SNL performances.

According to The Glow Up (via The Root), Lizzo and her all-Black, all-female band rocked custom designs by Dapper Dan x Gucci, while Murphy enlisted Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter to style him.

We previously reported, Bill Cosby’s publicist slammed Murphy’s “Saturday Night Live” opening monologue joke about the incarcerated comedian.

In an Instagram post, Andre Wyatt claimed Cosby broke color barriers and called Murphy a “Hollywood Slave.”

“Mr. Cosby became the first Black to win an Emmy for his role in I Spy and Mr. Cosby broke color barriers in the Entertainment Industry, so that Blacks like Eddie Murphy, Dave Chappell, Kevin Hart and et al., could have an opportunity to showcase their talents for many generations to come. It is sad that Mr. Murphy would take this glorious moment of returning to SNL and make disparaging remarks against Mr. Cosby. One would think that Mr. Murphy was given his freedom to leave the plantation, so that he could make his own decisions; but he decided to sell himself back to being a Hollywood Slave. Stepin Fetchit plus cooning equals the destruction of Black Men in Hollywood.”

Meanwhile, here’s what The Root had to say about Murphy and Lizzo’s SNL style:

While we would’ve loved to say Eddie and Lizzo wore exclusively black designers for their appearances (and are still awaiting the rest of the details on Eddie’s wardrobe), we are nevertheless content with the nods—because when it comes to fashion promotion, an appearance on SNL can go a long way. So, shouts to two of our faves for not only making the still diversity-challenged SNL a little spicier this holiday season but for bringing a few black designers along for the ride.

*Tiffany Haddish admits she tried to shoot her shot at Tracy Morgan’s son but the comedian was not having it.

“Tracy has never tried to set me up with nothin’! I even asked Tracy to hook me up with his son who’s in my age range,” Haddish told Us Weekly earlier this month at “The Secret Life of Pets 2” premiere. “And Tracy’s like, ‘Nope. Nope! Not my baby. You can’t see my son. Not gonna have that! Nope, you’re not gonna be my daughter!’”

And it’s not just his sons. Haddish says Morgan does not have her back when it comes to playing matchmaker in general.

“He’s not gonna do that! He’s not gonna do it,” she tells Us. “I promise you, he’s not gonna do it.”

Haddish — who was previously married to ex William Stewart before their divorce was finalized in 2013 — says she’s single and dished with Us on what she’s looking for in a man. “Whoever got good credit, no kids, and then they not trying to make me less than who I am,” she said. “How about that?”

She also shared details about her worst date ever with the publication back in 2018.

“He smelled really bad, like ass. He stank,” she said, before admitting she confronted him about it. “Oh, you know, I said he stank! He was looking at me like I was crazy for telling him that he stink. And then we [went] to the movies, right, and we was in the theater and I told him I’d be right back, I gotta use the restroom, and I never came back.”

In related news, Kevin Hart has shared the hilarious reason why he won’t let Tiffany repay his $300 loan.

Before she was a famous comedian, Haddish was homeless and living out of her car. So her pal Kevin  decided to help her out.

“I was nowhere near, of course, Kevin Hart today,” Hart told Jimmy Kimmel back in May. “In my pocket, I had $300. I was like, ‘Yo, here. I don’t know what your situation is, but hopefully this can do something for you in this time. Because I feel like you’re not telling me something.'”

Haddish ended up using the money to stay in a motel room for a week.

“So, I got a room that you could get by the hour up on Martin Luther King and Western at this place called the Snooty Fox, which is really like the ho stroll, but I just wanted to take a shower, take a little nap, write out my list [of goals],” she previously told Vanity Fair. “I wrote: Get myself an apartment. Do these things, all these people I wanna work with, everything. I pretty much tackled almost all those goals.”

Now that they are both A-listers in the game, Hart still won’t let Haddish pay him back.

“No! Because then what would I have to hang over head? Absolutely nothing,” he explained to Essence. “I need something that I can bring up from time to time. So, no!”

He jokingly added, “I’m not going to take the money so every chance that I get I can go, ‘Hey! You know what’s crazy? You still owe me that $300’…I don’t want the money back.”

Introducing an Orange Alligator – A/K/A The ‘Trumpagator!’

Published

Alligator, orange

*I still remember the “horse of a different color” scene in the 1939 Hollywood remake of The Wizard of Oz.

Horse_of_a_different_color

Remember it?  That horse changed into several bright colors during that segment, and has prompted smiles for generations of movie lovers.

Well, THAT was a horse…in a movie.   I wouldn’t have been smiling at the sight of this:  a 4- to 5-foot orange alligator.

He or she — you can’t blame anyone for not wanting to get close enough to discern the beast’s gender! — turned heads earlier this week near a pond just outside of Charleston, South Carolina.  Residents have begun joking that it should be called a “Trumpagator.”

An alligator biologist at the University of Florida, Kent A. Viiet, said the color is probably temporary and due to something in the animal’s environment.

“I have no doubt that animal is stained somehow,” Viiet said.  “He’s the color of rust.”
