*Kerry Washington, Shonda Rhimes, Samuel L. Jackson, Russell Simmons and Rashida Jones are among more than 100 celebrities who have signed a pledge promising to do whatever is necessary to defeat GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump “and the hateful ideology he represents” this November.
Bryan Cranston, Julianne Moore, Neil Patrick Harris, Ryan Murphy, Michael Moore, Mark Ruffalo and Macklemore have also signed the pledge, launched by MoveOn.org’s “United Against Hate.” The effort aims to stop Trump by using “the power of our voice and the power of our vote,” the group states in an open letter posted on Mic.com.
Pledge signees Lena Dunham and America Ferrera appeared at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, and fellow signee Chloe Grace Moretz is scheduled to appear in the coming days as well.
The open letter specifically called out Trump’s hateful rhetoric targeting women, Latinos, people with disabilities and other marginalized groups. “Some of us come from the groups Trump has attacked,” it read. “Some of us don’t. But as history has shown, it’s often only a matter of time before the ‘other’ becomes me.”
