*Netflix has revealed the official trailer for “The Get Down,” Baz Luhrmann’s music-driven drama series chronicling the rise of hip hop and the simultaneous waning days of disco.
Set in 1977 New York, the series is told through the lives, music, art and dance of the South Bronx kids who would change the world forever. Jaden Smith, Jimmy Smits and Giancarlo Esposito are among the cast.
The Get Down is produced by Sony Pictures Television for Netflix. The series is executive produced by Luhrmann, Catherine Martin, Nas, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Thomas Kelly, and Paul Watters.
The first six episodes premiere Friday, August 12 on Netflix. Additional episodes will air in 2017.
