*Cleveland Browns running back Isaiah Crowell has apologized and removed an Instagram illustration he shared Monday that depicts a hooded man slitting a police officer’s throat.
He captioned the image, “They give policies all types of weapons and they continuously choose to kill us.”
The illustration was captured in screenshots before Crowell deleted it and the backlash continued on:
.@IsaiahCrowell34 sweet Instagram pic bro. Very classy. Don’t forget that cops protect you from 60,000 unruly fans every Sunday. #Browns

.@Browns must fire #IsaiahCrowell ASAP, and @NFL must ban him for life.

I’m calling for the @Browns to do the right thing & cut Isaiah Crowell. The image he posted on Instagram was wrong & unacceptable #Browns

The NFL weighed in with a statement about the Instagram. “The image was inappropriate and insensitive,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told TheWrap via email. “He realized this, took down the post and has since apologized.”
The Browns were a little less measured, calling the post “extremely disturbing,” “unacceptable” and “inappropriate.”
Here’s the club’s full statement: “We have spoken to Isaiah regarding his extremely disturbing and unacceptable social media decision. It was completely inappropriate and we have made him aware of our high level of disappointment. Isaiah has apologized but also knows that just an apology is insufficient and that he must take steps to make a positive difference after a very negative and impactful post.”
