New Video of Alton Sterling Killing: He Didn’t Have Gun in His Hand

*A new video of what some are calling the execution of Alton Sterling by Baton Rouge, Louisiana police officers outside a convenience store has hit the net. In the video, provided to the Daily Beast by the owner of the Triple S Food Mart, Abdul Muflahi, shows officers Blaine Salamoni and Howie Lake II struggling with Sterling – a father of 5 – who is pinned on the ground.

Sterling, 37, was selling music CDs outside store when he was approached by the 2 officers early Tuesday morning.

In the video, one cop yells “He’s got a gun! Gun” followed by the sounds of 4 gunshots.

The video does not show a gun in Sterling’s hand.

As one officer sits on the ground, a second officer is seen pulling an object from Sterling’s right pocket. Sterling, still alive and with a visible wound to his chest, moves his left arm toward his head and face. Sterling  later died from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.

The officers, Salamoni and Lake, responded to a 911 call about a man pointing a gun at customers inside the store around 12:30 a.m.

Muflahi told the New York Times the caller was not describing Sterling, his friend of 6 years who was welcome to sell CDs in front of the store.

The U.S. Department of Justice opened an investigation into the shooting today.

Both cops are on paid administrative leave.
