*Who better than New York Giants star Jason Pierre Paul to warn against the dangers of hand held fireworks over the July 4th weekend?

The defensive end, who famously had part of his hand blown off a year ago when a firework exploded in his grip, appears in a new public service announcement released by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on firework safety.

“I lit up a firework, thought I could throw it away real quick and in a split second it blew off my whole hand,” he says in the clip.

JPP shows the camera the consequences of his actions – a missing index finger, and a severely compromised middle finger and thumb on his right hand.

“On my way to the hospital, all I could think about was my son, and if I was going to make it,” he says in the PSA. “Now I am just truly blessed to be alive.”

His advice: “Keep fireworks away from kids” and leave them to the professionals. “The fireworks professionals,” he stresses.
