*Where do we even begin? The show started off with a fiery yet bold performance from Beyonce accompanied by rapper Kendrick Lamar. The two received a standing ovation and set Social Media on fire. From then on, there were many great performances to follow from artists such as Alicia Keys, Maxwell, Bryson Tiller, Fat Joe, Usher, and the list goes on… Of course we can’t forget to mention the two amazing hosts, Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson who started off the show very comical giving us an “urban spin” of the Broadway play Hamilton.
Prior to the show, BET put forth much effort in advertising this program. Based upon the activity from social media we can conclude that this show since the early 2000’s will be added to the highest viewed award show in BET history.

While the sudden death of Prince still resides in our thoughts, all of the artists who contributed their gifts did a phenomenal job with his tribute. The tribute included heavy hitters like Roots, Erykah Badu, Bilal ,Stevie Wonder, Tori Kelly, Jennifer Hudson, Maxwell, Janelle Monet, and last but certainly not least…Miss Sheila E accompanied by Jerome Benton of Morris Day and The Time. On the red carpet/ pre-show, many celebs shared how excited and anxious they were to see Prince’s tribute and how pieces of their outfit was inspired by prince. In fact, Tia Mowry, mentioned to one of BET’s correspondences that her outfit was inspired by Prince and it was quite obvious for Spike Lee. He was spotted wearing a broach with Prince’s symbol on his jacket along with hints of purple all throughout his attire.
All in all, BET did their thang with this year’s award show. They covered controversial matters such as the importance of voting in this years election, the injustice in America for blacks, and how we as a people need to get and stay woke. It was great to see that many of the artists, actors, and actresses that attended last nights show embraced their blackness through their style from head to toe, literally.
This one will go down in the books for sure. Great Job BET!
