Prince’s ‘Vaults of Music’ May be Opened Sooner than Later

*Page Six’s Richard Johnson is reporting that Charles Koppelman, the man who signed Prince when he was head of EMI and released the musician’s 1996 triple-album, “Emancipation,” has been appointed – along with  with L. Londell McMillan, Prince’s longtime lawyer and manager – to handle the late artist’s entertainment assets.

“We’re going to be having a good time,” Koppelman  said. “There is so much to be done with this estate. There are vaults full of music.”

Koppelman is dropping hints about a possible Broadway musical featuring Prince’s hits or a Cirque du Soleil show.

“Prince was an icon on the level of The Beatles and Michael Jackson, and his legacy should be honored,” according to Koppelman. “Though his name was Prince, I always thought he was the king of music.”

Bremer Trust, the court-approved special administrator of the estate of Prince Rogers Nelson, selected Koppelman and McMillan because they worked together when the singer insisted on being called “The Artist Formerly Known as Prince.”

“He couldn’t have been sweeter. He couldn’t have been more real,” Koppelman said of Prince.

But when McMillan reminded Koppelman of the name change:

“I said, ‘What would happen if something was about to fall on his head? I think I would say “Prince.” ’ ”
