*Like a superhero, filmmaker Rick Famuyiwa (“Dope”) has swooped in to direct Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment’s “The Flash,” replacing Seth Grahame-Smith who left the project last month.

The film stars Ezra Miller, who first appeared as the superhero in WB’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

Per Variety:

The studio needed to act quickly with no start date in sight, even though the film was slated for 2018. Sources say Smith and the studio parted ways amicably. Warner Bros. was seeking a more experienced helmer to guide the big-budget production.

Following the success of his Sundance pic “Dope,” Famuyiwa was on several studio short lists for directing gigs. “The Flash” will mark his biggest feature to date. He most recently helmed the HBO movie “Confirmation,” starring Kerry Washington.

Production on “The Flash” is expected to begin later this year.

No word on the storyline in Smith’s most recent draft of the script, which is based on a treatment by Chris Miller and Phil Lord.
