When celebrities pass, their former homes hit the market and garner plenty of attention in the public sphere. This is no less true for the musical pioneer Prince’s home, after his death earlier this spring.
Notably, a beachfront estate the established icon once owned in Turks and Caicos has hit the market — at an asking price of an astonishing $12 million. Prince’s home features a 10-bedroom main complex, a guest wing, a two-bedroom guest house, and a three-bedroom staff house.
According to Robert Greenwood of Christie’s International Real Estate, the house is barely lived in and hardly furnished — although it does boast the mirror and chairs from the stars acclaimed movie Purple Rain.
Princely touches abound on the property, despite his infrequent traffic there. The driveway was painted purple, and there are 10 bathrooms, a tennis court, a gym, a home theater, and amazing views of the ocean.
The home is located on Providenciales, a small island which is a part of the Turks and Caicos. The new owner is sure to live in luxurious comfort, complete with a staff and central air conditioning — a long way from 1903, when the New York Stock Exchange was one of the first and only structures to have air conditioning.
The late singer’s fans may be disappointed that someone will be able to scoop up the $12 million property, but luckily for them, Prince’s more-oft frequented home outside of Minneapolis, Paisley Park, will soon be turned into a museum.
Prince owned more than 200 acres of land throughout Chanhassen, the town where Paisley Park is located, making him one of the town’s biggest landowners.
The singer’s brother-in-law announced Paisley Park’s opening as a public museum, saying, “We will turn Paisley Park into a museum in Prince’s memory. It would be for the fans. He was all about the fans — this would remember his music, which is his legacy.”
