“Ahmad Saves a Nation ~ Volume One: The Dream” by author H.A. Jabar

* H.A Jabar ‘s Ahmad Saves a Nation, Volume One: The DreamĀ is about an ambitious 21-year old black male named Ahmad, who is the great grandson of the founders of an all-black village, post slavery (likened unto Black Wall Street).

The village is a very unique community where all of the citizens help one another, work together, and share responsibility.

The citizens of the village believe that everybody has a role to play to make their community a better place to live. They believe in hard work and they value the gifts and talents of each other. After a hard day of work earning money at his grass cutting business, Ahmad has a dream that will change his life forever and put him on a course to save the nation that he lives in.

Students learn life lessons centered on the Nguza Saba (7 principles) of Kwanza, including: unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith.

H.J. Jabar, Ā “Ahmad Saves a Nation”

Ahmad Saves a Nation, developed for 3rd through 8th grade, teaches students about the benefits of family, community, nation, and race; while they enjoy activities using mathematics, language arts, logic and reasoning, cultural awareness, and critical thinking.

After a volunteer experience in an all-black third grade classroom, author H.A. Jabar knew that the children in his community were being setup for failure.

After listening to a presentation on genealogy, teaching 8 year olds what an uncle, niece, nephew, cousin, grandparent etc. were, Jabar looked at the studentā€™s handout and saw all white faces. Astonished by what he saw, what he already knew was reinforced.

The curriculum in the American education system is designed to lift European culture as the standard for all people. That experience multiplied by his own boredom in the classroom inspired Jabar to begin developing his own culturally relevant curriculum and pedagogy called the Paradigm Shift Curriculum

Ā “We need a new educational system that creates a shift in mindset; one that will not prepare us to be employees, but will instead inspire students to be masters of any field or subject of their choosing. One where children can have their curiosity about themselves answered and their self-image lifted,” says Jabar.

About Paradigm Shift Curriculum (PSC)

PSC is series of children stories, workbooks, and educational material that incorporates imagination, visualization, and the range of learning styles, including hands on activities.

PSC starts by engaging the natural curiosity of the learner by teaching about the ā€˜selfā€™ first and then expands to help the student see their ā€˜selfā€™ as a part of their family, community, nation, and race.

PSC uses the 7 Principles of Kwanzaa (Nguza Saba) as a cultural basis to cleverly inspire a mindset and perspective of working together, freedom, and independence.
