Kehoe Brothers to Direct R-rated Action-comedy for Tyler Perry

Tyler Perry

*Black List scribes Jim Kehoe & Brian Kehoe have been hired by Tyler Perry’s 34th Street Film to direct their R-rated action-comedy “Top of the Food Chain.” The script, described as “City Slickers” meets “The Revenant,” follows a group of suburban men who head to the isolated wilderness to spice up their pedestrian lives, but soon realize how ill-equipped they are when they find themselves being hunted by a massive predatory bear.

The announcement comes as the duo relish in the success of their acclaimed short, “The Comments,” which was featured on Deadline Hollywood and Funny or Die and included an all-star comedy cast. The Kehoes have been in high demand in both features and TV since the sale of their 2012 Black List script, “Cherries,” which is headed into production with Kay Cannon (“Pitch Perfect”) directing and Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (“Neighbors,” “This Is The End”) producing for Good Universe alongside DMG Entertainment.

“Jim and Brian have a unique comedic voice and we have confidence in them directing a hilarious film,” said Matt Moore.

“We’re honored to be working on this project with such a talented group of people. Our only hope is that our parents will be as embarrassed of the movie as they are of the script,” said the Kehoes.

Perry, Ozzie Areu, and Matt Moore will produce “Top of the Food Chain” for 34th Street Films with David Kang, producer of “The Comments” and the recent viral short, “Power/Rangers”. Chris Cowles of DMG Entertainment will also produce and DMG’s Chris Fenton and Dan Mintz will executive produce.

“Top Of The Food Chain” was originally purchased as a pitch by 34th Street, which subsequently teamed up on the project with DMG, a bidder in the Paramount studios purchase. DMG’s films include Marvel’s blockbuster “Iron Man 3,” the critically acclaimed sci-fi hit “Looper,” extreme action thriller “Point Break,” and the upcoming comedy, “Bastards,” starring Ed Helms and Owen Wilson.

Production on “Top of the Food Chain” is slated to begin Fall 2016 and casting is currently underway.
