*(Via ESPN) – The Los Angeles Lakers won’t bring coach Byron Scott back next season after posting the worst record in franchise history in each of the two seasons since he was hired.

Scott, who sources told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne was informed of the decision Sunday night, had said he expected to be back a week ago, two days after the team closed its 2015-16 season with a win over the Utah Jazz, which gave the Lakers a franchise-worst 17-65 record.

Scott’s contract included a team option for next season — the third year of the deal — that was tied to performance incentives that he did not meet, sources said.

A team option was also included for the fourth year.

“We would like to thank Byron for his hard work, dedication and loyalty over the last two years, but have decided it is in the best interest of the organization to make a change at this time,” Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said in a statement.

Among the candidates the Lakers will look at are Luke Walton, Kevin Ollie and Jay Wright, sources told ESPN’s Shelburne.

Scott, at 38-126 (.232), had the worst record of the 16 Lakers coaches who spent at least two seasons with the team at the helm.
