Donald Trump: Harriet Tubman $20 Bill is ‘Political Correctness’

donald trump*Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill is not getting a thumbs up from Donald Trump.

The Republican presidential frontrunner weighed in on the hot topic Thursday morning (04-21-16) during a “Today” show –hosted NBC Town Hall. When asked whether he thought the treasury’s recent decision to have Tubman, a revolutionary abolitionist, represented on the$20 was an example of “political correctness” Trump wasn’t shy about his answer.

“Yes, I think it’s pure political correctness,” the real estate mogul said.

“I think Harriet Tubman is fantastic. I would love to see if we can maybe come up with another denomination,” Trump said before echoing a similar stance made by former presidential chanllenger Ben Carson who mentioed that putting Tubman on the $2 bill would be more ideal. “Andrew Jackson had a great history, and I think it is very rough when you take somebody off the bill,” said Trump. “As you know they were going to do the $10 bill, then all of a sudden the Broadway play ‘Hamilton’ sort of saved that one.”

A prominent history fixture, Tubman, a runaway slave, was known for her making more than a dozen subversive missions to help free other slaves through the use of the Underground Railroad. During the Civil War she went from being a cook and nurse to operating as a spy for the Union Army.

As a spy, Tubman became the first woman to lead an armed expedition that freed more than 700 more slaves during the Raid at Combahee Ferry. For many, Tubman’s contribution to America is no less notable than the nation’s seventh president, Andrew Jackson, in light of slave labor being the very basis of the U.S. economy. With this, Tubman’s actions have been regarded as fundamentally transformative.

Although Trump doesn’t have a problem speaking on Tubman being on the $20 bill, Michael Richards is another story.

According to TMZ, the former “Seinfeld” star was noticeably uncomfortable as the site questioned him about the “angry white men” backing Trump as well as Tubman replacing Jackson on the $20 bill.

Richards’s hesitancy could be related to his controversial tirade at the Laugh Factory 10 years ago. Richards drew headlines and outrage during that time when cell phone video caught him going into a profane racial tirade directed at someone in the audience who was heckling him.
