Underground: Season One arrives on DVD June 14 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) and Tribune Studios.

The suspenseful ‘Underground’ series – executive produced by Academy Award® and GRAMMY Award® winner John Legend (2014, Best Original Song, Selma) – is a compelling story of bravery, ingenuity and power.

Legend, with executive producers and Get Lifted Film Co. partners Mike Jackson (Southside with You) and Ty Stiklorius (Breaking Through), oversees all music aspects of the gripping 10-episode journey, which follows a group of slaves striving for their freedom from the Macon plantation in 1857 Antebellum, Georgia.

As they plan to escape, the immense sacrifices and uncertainty of where to go and who to trust will test those who have the courage to leave and decide who has the endurance to survive.

The ensemble cast features breakout stars Jurnee Smollett-Bell (TV’s “Friday Night Lights”) and Aldis Hodge (Straight Outta Compton) alongside Jessica De Gouw (TV’s “Dracula”), Alano Miller (TV’s “Jane The Virgin”), and Christopher Meloni (TV’s “Law & Order: SVU”), and guest stars Marc Blucas (TV’s “Blue Bloods”), Reed Diamond (TV’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”), Adina Porter (TV’s “True Blood”), Amirah Vann (TV’s “Mozart in the Jungle”), Mykelti Williamson (Forrest Gump) and Andrea Frankle (TV’s “True Detective”).

‘Underground’ is created by Misha Green (TV’s “Sons of Anarchy”) and Joe Pokaski (TV’s “Heroes”) who also executive produce alongside Academy Award® winner Akiva Goldsman (2001, Best Adapted Screenplay, A Beautiful Mind) of Weed Road Pictures, Joby Harold (Edge of Tomorrow) and Tory Tunnell (Holy Rollers) of Safehouse Pictures and Anthony Hemingway (TV’s “The Newsroom”).

The Underground: Season One  DVD release is enhanced with bonus material that includes behind-the-scenes featurettes “The Music of Underground” with Executive Producers John Legend and Mike Jackson discussing the soundtrack and how contemporary music plays a role in the show; “The Journey of Underground,” showcasing how the story made it from the set to the screen; and “The Characters of Macon,” giving audiences a deeper look at the powerful personas who have brought the series to life, along with commentaries for select episodes, a cast gag reel and more!

Underground: Season One Synopsis

Set in a desperate and dangerous time, “Underground” tells the story of revolutionaries on the Underground Railroad who use their ingenuity, power and perseverance to attempt the greatest escape in history despite the dire consequences that awaited them on the other side.

The provocative and compelling series focuses on a group of courageous men and women who band together for the fight of their lives – for their families, their future and their freedom.

Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Aldis Hodge lead the ensemble cast that includes Jessica De Gouw, Alano Miller, and Christopher Meloni.
