*Coming off of a 12 year hiatus, the Barbershop series returns to theaters April 15.

The cast of the third movie, “Barbershop: The Next Cut,” gathered at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on Sunday, April 3rd for a press junket.

Among the cast members who returned were: the mastermind himself, Ice Cube; Cedric the Entertainer; Anthony Anderson and Eve. New additions to the movie included Nicki Minaj, Common, Deon Cole, Tyga and Lamorne Morris.

The film had purpose as it shined a light on the on-going violence in Chicago. EURweb associate Kiki Ayers caught up with the cast to discuss the importance of the film and how people can decrease violence within their communities.

“The most important part of the film was to show what’s really going on in Chicago and I don’t think you can do a movie about a barbershop on the south side without showing what’s going on in the streets,” said Cube.

Chi-town native Common explained that he loves his city and he knows his city needs help just like many other cities in America. He liked how the story was told in a creative way that didn’t beat people over the head. The movie director Malcolm D. Lee told us that Ice Cube didn’t want to do the movie unless it showed the real issues that are happening in Chicago. He said what attracted him to the script was the way the story is being told.

“Seeing it through the eyes of a dad that was trying to keep his son away from gang violence was a very smart way to go. It was the emotional spine of the movie,” said Lee.
