*On Wednesday, March 30, Taye Diggs visits “Steve Harvey” to talk about his role as dad to his 6-year-old son Walker with ex-wife Idina Menzel, and the backlash that followed his children’s book called “Mixed Me,” inspired by his mixed heritage.

Taye – who described the book as having a positive message about self-empowerment, self-esteem and self-love – said he was shocked to find himself in the middle of a heated debate about racial identity, because some people interpreted the book as Taye saying that he didn’t want his son to be black, or that he was somehow ashamed to be black himself.

Watch below:

Taye has gotten a lot of backlash on social media for his point of view. Together, Taye and Steve will take a look at some of the mean-spirited tweets that were posted about Taye, including one that said “Taye Diggs has been lost. I thought the black delegation voted him out years ago. If not, I’d like to propose that.

Steve Harvey jokes, “the black delegation … I need to meet them … Who are they?,” with Taye joking back, “I would invite you, but they voted me out, so …”

Watch below:

Steve asks Taye how he would feel if his son only wanted to identify with one race. “I’ll be honest, I would love for him to identify with the black side, because that’s my pride, that’s what I am,” Taye tells Steve.

And Taye tells Steve about the major security detail that he and Idina Menzel had to have accompany them to the theater, as a precaution against the death threats she received because she was married to him.

Taye and Steve will also take questions from biracial couples in the “Steve Harvey” audience, about certain struggles they’ve faced when raising their biracial children.
