*”Uncle Buck” is an upcoming ABC comedy television series based on the 1989 movie of the same name in which comedian Mike Epps stars in the title role made famous by the late John Candy.
Epps spoke to Essence about the series, and his upcoming role as Richard Pryor in the Lee Daniels directed biopic.
“I like being the uncle because he’s not responsible for your ass,” he says with a laugh. “He gets to have fun with you, then take you back home!”
Mike Epps is best known for playing Day-Day Jones in “Next Friday” and its sequel, “Friday After Next.” He’s also appeared in “The Hangover,” as “Black Doug,” and L.J. in “Resident Evil: Apocalypse” and “Resident Evil: Extinction.” Epps says his credits reflect his versatility as an actor.

“I’m a comedian, but I’m a really serious guy too,” he says. “There are a lot of different fabrics that make me who I am.”
Epps is also gearing up for the long-awaited biopic Richard Pryor: he auditioned four times to get the chance to portray his idol on the big screen.
”I’ve been in the business for almost 20 years and it’s been a slow grind. I earned this role—and I’m ready.”
Mike was on a panel for the Television Critics Association earlier this year to promote “Uncle Buck,” and he spoke with reporters about the Pryor biopic.
“50% of the script is performances,” Epps said. “I can’t give it all up but a lot of his bits and routines that we are familiar with is what we’ll be seeing in the film.”
In related news, Patti LaBelle will guest star on “The Voice,” as an advisor for Christina Aguilera’s team in preparation for the “battle rounds.” In addition to dishing vocal advice to the budding musicians, Patti will also serve up some of her Patti Pie!
