*Sony Pictures lot in Culver City, California hosted a special “sneak beak” Q&A breakfast for the upcoming animated adventure, ‘The Angry Birds Movie.’

The directing team of Clay Katis and Fergal Reily have adapted the hugely successful Rovio game franchise into a 3D computer-animated comedy.

The game has seen more than three billion downloads, and producer John Cohen gave us “just a taste” of what the vivid movie “looks and feels like.”

The animated film centers on three flightless birds (Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride) who investigate the mysterious arrival of green pigs to their idyllic island. Bird Island is a happy place – free of humans and technology, “a place where they don’t lock their doors.” The birds spend most of their time having fun and tending to their eggs – except for Red (Sudeikis), he’s the angriest bird on the island, and his rage sends him to anger management class where he meets fellow Angry Birds Chuck (Gad), Bomb (McBride) and Matilda (Maya Rudolph). Chuck can move faster than the speed of light, and Bomb literally explodes when he becomes too upset.

Life outside of Bird Island is all a mystery to the Angry Birds, and that changes with the arrival of pig pirates, captained by Leonard (Hader). Initially, the pigs come in peace, and entice the birds with their advanced technology. Red suspects the pigs are up to no good and he tries to warn the other Angry Birds, but they don’t believe him. As Red expected, the pigs betray the birds and steal all their eggs.

Red, Chuck and Bomb go in search of the legendary Mighty Eagle (Peter Dinklage) for help, but he turns out to be an old, overweight, senile fool. With no where else to turn to for help, Red teaches the other birds how to get angry and use it to defeat the pigs and reclaim their precious eggs. With the aid of the pigs’ technology (TNT and slingshots) Red and the birds launch an attack on Piggy Island with sequences that mimic the Angry Birds games.

The Sneak Beak presentation was followed by a voice cast Q&A that played out like a half hour at a comedy club. Check out the clip below in which comedians Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride and Bill Hader take turns one upping each other with their witticisms, clever one lines and perfect comic timing. They play off each other brilliantly.

Jason Sudeikis currently stars in the Jesse Owens biopic ‘RACE.’ Last we saw McBride, he was gifting fans of his dark humor with jaw-dropping moments as the ego-driven, foul-mouthed Kenny Powers on the HBO sports comedy series ‘Eastbound and Down.’  The show ran from 2009-2013. Since then, McBride has featured in  numerous films, and lent his voice to several animated features. He also played himself in 2013’s ‘This Is The End.’

We asked Danny what about the Angry Birds game-to-screen project compelled him to sign on.

“These guys were in it,” McBride said about his voice castmates. “I was familiar with the franchise, and a chance to say I’m in another movie with Josh Gad, we never get to see each other. It just seemed like it would be fun with these guys, and the script was really funny and the material seemed good, so… it’s not really rocket science for me. I just kinda went, ‘Bill said yes, okay, I’m in too.’

You don’t need to be a player of the game or familiar with the concept in order to enjoy what’s sure to be a thrill for all ages.

‘The Angry Birds Movie’ arrives in theaters May 2016.
