Sharpton Jokes that Trump Would ‘Probably Have Me Deported’ if He Becomes President

AL-SHARPTON*Donald Trump has a lot of controversial things in mind if he is elected president.

According the Rev. Al Sharpton, one of those things could involve the GOP presidential frontrunner deporting him.

“If Donald Trump is the nominee … I’m also reserving my ticket to get out of here if he wins. Only because he’d probably have me deported anyhow,” Sharpton joked to the sound of laughs and applause at a Center for American Progress Action Fund event on Thursday (Feb. 25).

In addition to predicting Trump’s course of action towards him, Sharpton touched on the importance of communities of color in the 2016 elections, The Huffington Post reports while noting that the civil rights leader addressed a situation involving Hillary Clinton and two Black Lives Matter activists who disrupted a private Clinton fundraiser late Wednesday night (Feb. 24).

Holding signs referencing Clinton’s comments on race and crime in 1996, Ashley Williams and another Black Lives Matter activist took the former secretary of state to task when Benson demanded that Clinton explain the inconsistencies on her record regarding race. More specifically, comments Clinton made about black people being “super predators.”

The incident ultimately resulted in Williams and the other activist being escorted out by the Secret Service. During his appearance at the event, Sharpton addressed he situation the activist brought to light as he admitted to speaking with Clinton about her comments and actions in the ‘90s while her husband, Bill Clinton, ran the country as president. Despite addressing the issue, Sharpton went on to admit that Clinton still needs more transparency in terms of dealing with questions pertaining the questions raised by the Black Lives Matter activists.

“I think that people have the right to raise that because it’s an issue that’s disturbing,” Sharpton told the Post about the protesters confronting Clinton. “But I think it is something she has to deal with as many times as it’s raised, as we raised it. It’s a legitimate question.”

Sharpton comments come amid him not endorsing any candidate for president, despite meeting with Clinton at various times leading up to the 2016 presidential election. Well aware of the efforts of Clinton and fellow Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to garner interest among black voters, Sharpton stated that he is still looking to hear more from them on what they will do to help communities of color.

“It’s good for them to say ‘yes, the country has an illness.’ Now, how are we going to heal it? Specifically, not slogans,” Sharpton said. “I don’t need people to tell me ‘yep, you are right, it’s unfair.’ Tell me what you are going to do about it.”

“We hear [Hillary Clinton] say that you disagree with some of the things done in the 90s under your husband with the omnibus crime bill, which I opposed at that time … But then what would you do with the Justice Department?” he asked during the discussion. “What kind of Attorney General would you have? I want more [solutions].”
