*“Empire” star Jussie Smollett and “Selma” actress Carmen Ejogo join “Machete Kills” actress Callie Hernandez and “The Killing” actress Amy Seimetz as the latest additions to Ridley Scott’s “Alien: Covenant,” a sequel to 2012’s “Prometheus.”
Michael Fassbender returns to the role of the amoral android along with additional franchise newcomers Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride and Demian Bichir.
The plot for the sequel has been kept largely under wraps, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Shooting is expected to begin in Australia next month.
Smollett, one of the breakout stars of Fox’s “Empire,” counts “North” and “The Mighty Ducks” among his film credits.
Ejogo starred as Coretta Scott King in Ava DuVernay’s “Selma,” and her other credits include “Born to Be Blue” with Ethan Hawke and “The Purge: Anarchy.” She’ll next be seen in Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter spin-off “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”
