*Congrats to Emmy Award-winning journalist Anita Bennett who has been named senior editor of the Los Angeles Daily News. She assumed her new role on Monday and in a meeting with newsroom staffers, she vowed to enhance the publication’s online presence in order to keep up with the ever-evolving digital news platform and its readers.

“I saw that the Daily News has a need to improve its digital footprint, and I have specific ideas on how to do that,” Bennett said.

“We’re delighted to have Anita onboard as the newsroom leader here at the Daily News,” said Frank Pine, executive editor of the Los Angeles News Group. “With her extensive experience in the Southern California local news industry and her focus on digital, we’re confident she’s going to help take the Daily News to the next level.”

Before transitioning to the Daily News, Bennett served as deputy editor at TheWrap.com, which she joined in 2014 as a news editor and was promoted to senior editor, then deputy editor. In her capacity, she managed a staff of bloggers and reporters, and she penned several exclusive reports that generated millions of views and helped raise the site’s traffic, per Daily Mail.

Bennett – who is fluent in Spanish – also worked as a digital journalist on the website for KTLA Channel 5, and she spent several years as a producer and writer at Los Angeles Fox affiliate KTTV Channel 11, as well as sister station KCOP Channel 13. From 2009 to 2012, she worked as an on-camera news reporter at L.A. Cityview 35.

“As a longtime Daily News reader, I am looking forward to joining this team of talented journalists,” Bennett said. “I like that the Daily News is a legacy newspaper that will be around for quite some time.”
