Manny Pacquiao’s ‘Animals’ Comment on Gays Destroys Relationship with Nike

Manny Pacquiao*Manny Pacquiao’s views on same sex relationships are coming back on him in a major way.

The Filipino boxer’s relationship with Nike is no more after he commented on gay marriage during an interview, saying same sex relationships are “worse than animals.”

Noted for being an advocate of marriage equality, Nike responded to Pacquiao by firing him and issuing a statement that labeled the athlete’s remarks “abhorrent.”

“Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community,” Nike said in its statement.

Despite Pacquiao apologizing for what he said, Nike has already started distancing itself from the fighter with removing all of his items from their online webstore.

Making matters worse is the fact that Pacquiao’s longtime promoter Bob Arum stands with Nike on their decision to terminate his client. In Arum’s eyes, Pacquiao’s comments are offensive and completely out of touch.

“Manny’s remarks were offensive to many people … Nike acted appropriately,” Arum said about Pacquiao during an appearance on “TMZ Sports” show.
