*You may know her as Bernice from the Tru TV series “South Beach Tow,” but the woman who plays the character on the reality series, Lakatriona Brunson, has added a new gig to her resume.

The part-time reality star been named head football coach at Miami Jackson High School, which makes her the first female head football coach in Florida history, according to the Miami Herald.

The school held a news conference to announce the hiring of Brunson, and with it came the announcement that rapper/producer Luther Campbell, formerly of 2 Live Crew, has also been hired as an assistant. In recent years, Campbell has served as a defensive coordinator at Miami Central, Miami Northwestern and, most recently, Miami Norland.

“We’re not here to talk about music or reality TV,” Brunson said at the news conference. “We’re here to talk about football only.”

“At first I thought ‘this [expletive] might be crazy because I take football real serious,” Campbell said. “But after a conversation with her, I said, ‘Naw, she knows her football. She’s on point.’ I don’t take this as a joke. I didn’t want to be a part of no circus.”

Campbell was only hired as an assistant because he’s not a certified teacher in Miami-Dade County public schools, so he was not eligible for the position.

As ESPN notes, Brunson is a physical education teacher and the flag football coach at Jackson. She also played football for the Independent Women’s Football League more than a decade ago. The Herald also reports that she was a track and field and basketball standout at Miami Northwestern, and she went on to play basketball and earn a degree at Tennessee State. When she’s not on the field, Brunson is a driver and assistant manager for Tremont Towing, the company portrayed in “South Beach Tow.”

After former coach Earl Little stepped down after two seasons, Jackson began a coaching search in January.

“It’s a lot of people that probably applied for this position, and look who is here,” Brunson said. “I’m ready for whatever comes my way. I’m ready to fight, ready to get these guys prepared and ready to win.”
