Anthony Michael Hobbs’ ‘One Nation’ Screening at Bonita Springs Int’l Film Fest Feb.13

10 year-old filmmaker Anthony Michael Hobbs’ short film One Nation wins fourth film festival award – next screener with Oscar nominated feature film.

*On Saturday, February 13, 2016 and Sunday, February 21st young Baltimore actor/filmmaker Anthony Michael Hobbs’ (Emmy nominated PBS’ “The Abolitionists”) short film One Nation will be screened again. These two screenings make a total of 10 for the young protégé’s first film. Sat., Feb. 13th at 1 p.m. One Nation screens at the Bonita Springs International Film Festival in Florida, and on Sun., Feb. 21st at 3 p.m. it will be screened at the Providence Children’s Film Festival in Rhode Island.

The Bonita Springs International Film Festival (BIFF) is an event of the Centers for the Arts Bonita Springs, which also host the Foreign Film Series and the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers. BIFF’s mission is to create experiences that bring people together to discover extraordinary films from around the world. The festival presents over 70 films from around the world providing also workshops, demonstrations and Q&A Sessions with filmmakers, writers, director and actors. It is here that Hobbs’ One Nation will be screened just before the 2015 Oscar nominated feature foreign film Tangerines (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/oscars-foreign-language-nominees-estonia-771016 ).

The Providence Children’s Film Festival (PCFF) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit arts and cultural organization with a mission to present the best of independent and international children’s films to inspire, delight, educate and connect a diverse community of people of all ages. PCFF was established in 2009 and is located in multiple venues within walking distance of downtown Providence, Rhode Island over a span of 10 days. It offers screenings, filmmaking workshops and free activities. The screenings will host 19 feature-length and 100 short films.

One Nation, Hobbs first short film, was also screened at Gold Coast Film Festival (Port Washington, NY); the Gary International Black Film Festival (Gary, Indiana); the Aurora Picture Show Extremely Young Film Festival (Houston); the Alhambra Theatre Film Festival (Indiana); the West Chester Film Festival (Pennsylvania); the Montclair Film Festival (New Jersey); the San Diego International Kids Film Festival, and the Ocktober Film Festival (New York). To date Anthony Michael Hobbs has garnered four awards – the Alhambra Theatre Film Festival’s “Spirit Award”; the Montclair Film Festival’s “Grand Prize for Kidz Shortz”; the Ocktober Film Festival’s “Best Youth Filmmaker,” and the Gary International Black Film Festival’s “Best Youth Short.”

One Nation is about a boy name Steven and his five friends (Jeffrey, Spice, Hope, Rose, and Brianna); kids who decided that they needed to give back to the members of the Armed Forces returning home after fighting for our freedom. Zachary Hammond was the film’s production assistant, Jeannine Collins the film’s wardrobe stylist, and the soundtrack selection is by comic book author/singer/songwriter Lexee Crystal titled “I See.”

The 10 year-old Global Stars Network multi-award winner is best known for his roles as young Frederick Douglass in the 2013 Emmy Award nominated PBS Special “The American Experience: The Abolitionist” (https://video.pbs.org/video/2321796209) starring actor/director Richard Brooks (“Law & Order,” The Crow) and in the DreamWorks documentary “How to Train Your Dragon: Dragons and Dinosaurs” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bekKOmfsWfc). His acting credits also include several PBS Sprout Network mini-segments – “Claritin Kids Allergy Medicine,” “Sunnyside Up Show,” and “Good Night Show;” a United Way PSA (https://vimeo.com/54017197); the national classroom program called KinderRhyme – which appears in over 2600 school programs, and as the website instructional voice for advertising firm TBWA World Wide – the largest advertising holding company in the world.

Hobbs is also a model and has appeared in such print campaigns for Finish Line athletics’ chain; Philadelphia based Urban-inspired footwear chain Villa; Charles River Apparel 2015 catalogue, and for the USDA’s Healthy Kids 2011 national print campaign.  He is also a stage actor who has performed in such stage plays as Kim Sykes’ “In a Roundabout Way” and Nolan Williams, Jr,’s “Christmas Gift!”

In addition, Anthony Michael is a motivational speaker who has appeared as a guest speaker for former NFL player Joel Gamble’s (Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans) “Joel Gamble Foundation: Career Scholars Program”, and for the Root Branch Academy’s Youth Film Festival.
