Bill Cosby to Stand Trial for Sexual Assault Charges in Pennsylvania

bill cosby (in court 02-03-16)

*Uh oh, there’s bad news for Bill Cosby.

Lawyers for the Cos were unsuccessful in having the sexual assault charges against him dismissed. A Philadelphia area judge ruled the 78-year-old entertainer will have to go to trial.

Wednesday evening, Judge Steven O’Neill ruled that there was “no basis to grant the relief request” by the attorneys, after they had presented evidence over the last two days that former Montgomery County Dist. Atty. Bruce Castor had made a deal with the entertainer’s lawyer years ago that Cosby wouldn’t be prosecuted.

As we reported, Castor testified that he had determined the criminal case against Cosby was weak and unlikely to succeed and that it would be better to have the comedian testify freely in a civil case filed by the plaintiff.

Prosecutors who succeeded Castor scoffed at the argument and wondered whether Cosby had been allowed to “buy” his way out of facing criminal charges.

Bill Cosby is facing three felony counts of aggravated indecent assault stemming from a 2004 interaction with former Temple University basketball staffer Andrea Constand.

The comedian/actor sat stoically as the judge read the decision, then talked quietly to an aide while lawyers huddled behind him. Cosby is free on $1-million bail.
