John Legend Performing at Obama’s L.A. Fundraiser

John Legend*John Legend is set to perform at President Barack Obama’s fundraiser next month in Los Angeles at a private home in Hancock Park, with tickets starting at $1,000 per guest and rising to $33,400 per couple. The latter includes VIP seating, photo line reception and a co-host greeting, Variety reports.

Coming just two days after the New Hampshire primary, the event will also be co-hosted by Mark Ronson, music manager Brandon Creed and “Empire” actress and ex-Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland and her husband/manager Tim Weatherspoon.

The proceeds will go to the Democratic Hope Fund, with the first $2,500 going toward debt retirement for the 2012 Obama for America campaign. Additional proceeds will go to a series of fundraising events organized by the Democratic National Committee.

Obama set fundraising records in his two campaigns, garnering nearly $750 million in 2008 and $722 million in 2012. Experts wonder if he will be able to raise that kind of money for his planned presidential library. The Barack Obama Presidential Center – as well as its foundation – will be located on the South Side of Chicago and associated with the University of Chicago.

Unlike previous presidents, Obama has said he and the first lady will not personally raise funds for his library until he leaves office in early 2017. The center will be constructed at the request of nonprofit Barack H. Obama Foundation.

Meanwhile, multiple-award winner John Legend is expecting his first child – a girl – with wife Chrissy Teigen.

“We’re really excited to have our first child. This is a new experience for both of us,” he told Us Weekly.

“I’m excited that we’re going to have someone that is a product of our love,” he said. “I’m excited to teach her and love her and do all the things that good parents should do.”

He also confessed that he’s already working on a song to sing his baby girl.

“I’ve definitely been trying to write a song for my daughter,” he admitted. “It’s hard. Part of me thinks maybe I just have to see her before I can write it, but I’ve been trying to think about what fatherhood means and what I should say to her.”
