Aretha Franklin Launching Food Line to Compete with Patti Labelle

Aretha Franklin*Aretha Franklin is ready to serve Patti LaBelle some competition with her forthcoming line of food that will include high protein, baked chicken and her special chili and gumbo, as well as low-fat options for heart health conscious folks.

Following the success of Patti’s sweet potato pies, Aretha spoke to Evrod Cassimy, Morning Anchor of Local 4 News Today in Detroit, and told him that even though she has yet to sample one of LaBelle’s hyped up pies, she is warning the diva get ready to move her pies “to the side!” Franklin revealed that she’s already met with a food group out of Phoenix to start developing her food products for store shelves.

Additionally, Franklin – who grew up in Detroit – is donating food and overnight hotel stays for 25-50 people in Flint, Michigan who are suffering through a water contamination crisis. Many residents will be pre-screened at her father’s church in Detroit, New Bethel Baptist Church, at a date to be determined, WDIV reports.

“Detroiters usually come to the aid of Detroiters — and Flint is certainly regarded as Detroit,” Franklin told Local 4 News. “Hang in there.”

As CBS News reports, high levels of lead have been detected in Flint’s water since officials switched from the Detroit municipal system and began drawing from the Flint River as a cost-saving measure.

Sean “Diddy” Combs and Mark Wahlberg are also aiding Flint residents by donating 1 million bottles of water. Eminem, Wiz Khalifa and Big Sean are among other celebrities who have provided support and donations to assist Flint residents.

In related news, Aretha is gearing up for her FIRST flight in 33 years and rehearsing for her upcoming concert at Caesars Windsor on Feb 13th.
