21 Savage Arrested by ICE; UK Born Rapper Overstayed His Visa

Uh oh! There’s super crazy-azz bad news for rapper 21 Savage coming out of the ATL.

This is gonna come as a shock to a lot of folks. Dude is actually a citizen of the United Kingdom (Britain) who overstayed his visa and has been arrested by ICE, otherwise known as the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The report goes on to say that the rapper, whose real name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was taken into custody in a “targeted operation,” ICE spokesman Brian Cox said. Most people assumed that Abraham-Joseph, 26, was from Atlanta and has long been considered a local act.

To ingratiate himself to the community, the news outlet points out that last fall, he gave free school supplies to more than 2,500 DeKalb County school students.

Cox, the ICE spokesman, said Abraham-Joseph is an “unlawfully present United Kingdom national” who legally entered the U.S. in July 2005 on a visa. His visa expired a year later, Cox stated. Additionally, the rapper was convicted of felony drug charges in 2014 in Fulton County.

Abraham-Joseph has been placed in “removal proceedings before the federal immigration courts,” Cox said. He performed in Atlanta as recently as Thursday in the Super Bowl Music Fest at State Farm Arena.

His attorney, Dina LaPolt, tells TMZ:

“We are working diligently to get Mr. Abraham-Joseph out of detention while we work with authorities to clear up any misunderstanding. Mr. Abraham-Joseph is a role model to the young people in the country — especially in Atlanta, Georgia and is actively working in the community leading programs to help underprivileged youths in financial literacy.”

Say goodbye to the US, 21 Savage … if you’re not put in jail first.
