*Jennifer Lopez has two checks coming in on the TV front.
The actress-singer is back at the judge’s table on “American Idol,” and is now executive producing and starring in “Shades of Blue,” an NBC drama that is much more demanding of her time.
“We knew that we would have to start doing auditions while we were filming the show, so I would go on weekends to film ‘Idol’” Lopez, dressed fittingly in electric blue, told the Television Critics Association Wednesday, appearing alongside her fellow cast members and producers. “It was challenging, but we got through it and I just tried to take it day by day.”
“It’s about compartmentalizing,” she continued. “When I’m on the set, it’s about that. I won’t let people burden my mind with other stuff when I’m acting. I really feel like it needs my full attention. And then when I go off and do ‘Idol,’ it’s a little bit more of a fun thing, reuniting with the ‘Idol’ family and listening to people sing.”
In “Shades of Blue” (Thursdays at 10) Lopez stars as a police detective forced to snitch on a fellow partner and longtime father figure, played by Ray Liotta. Technically, Jlo is Liotta’s boss when the cameras aren’t rolling, although she doesn’t quite see it that way.
“He is the boss, let’s just put it that way. I defer, both on and off camera,” she said emphatically. “I don’t really try to challenge that in any way, shape or form.”
