*Watch a Samuel L. Jackson movie and chances are one word he says will always be heard multiple times.

And now we know why.

During an appearance on “The Howard Stern Show” on Tuesday (Jan. 5), Jackson detailed how the word “motherf**ker” helped him overcome a debilitating stutter he had back in the day as well as speech process overall.

“I have no idea [how] but it just does,” “The Hateful Eight” entertainer said. “It clicks a switch that stops the d-d-d b-b-b, because me I stuttered really, really, really badly for a long time.”

While Jackson didn’t go deeper into why “mother**ker” prevents him from stuttering, he did reveal to New York Magazine in a 2013 interview that it is his “favorite word.” So much so that he admitted that he says it under his breath as a form of daily affirmation.

On a serious note, Jackson mentioned to Stern that former classmates mocking him prompted him to speaking for “almost a year.” As a result, the 67-year-old actor ended up doing a variety of exercises to alleviate his stuttering.

“I read a lot,” he added. “I read things about breathing exercises; I actually went to the library to combat stuttering.”

If you ever wondered exactly how many times Jackson has said “motherf—ker,” HuffPost has you covered. A 2014 estimate it took states that Jackson has uttered the word 171 times in 27 different movies.
