*The Hollywood Foreign Press Association must be praying that this morning’s glitzy announcement of its 2016 Golden Globe nominees won’t be overshadowed by the fact that they twice tweeted America Ferrera’s name as Gina Rodriguez.
Ferrera, best known for starring in ABC’s “Ugly Betty,” was one of four actors who announced the nominees this morning in Beverly Hills. Rodriguez, last year’s Golden Globe winner for Best Actress in a TV Comedy, is again nominated in the category for The CW’s “Jane the Virgin.”
They are two separate Latina actresses, but you wouldn’t know it from the Globes’ tweet this morning, which used Gina’s handle @ThisIsGina to identify Ferrera in a photo:
Yeah, that’s America Ferrera not Gina Rodriguez, official #GoldenGlobes Twitter account… pic.twitter.com/Rm3YeW9ywU

They made this mistake not once…but twice.
Mislabeling an actress once? Awkward. Twice? Inexcusable. (That’s America Ferrera, not Gina Rodriguez) pic.twitter.com/49ncWUatqt

Eventually, the HFPA apologized in a statement.
“What occurred this morning was an unfortunate error. Our sincerest apologies to both America and Gina,” they said.
