NBC’s highly-anticipated production of “The Wiz Live!” not only earned respectable ratings, drawing 11.1 million viewers, but beat NBC’s musical predecessor “Peter Pan Live.” That production, led by Brian Williams’ daughter Allison Williams, drew just 9.1 million in 2014. NBC’s 2013 musical “The Sound of Music Live” remains in first place, earning 18.6 million as broadcast TV’s first live musical staging in decades.

“The Wiz Live!” even managed to lure its 11.1 million against a “Thursday Night Football” thriller on CBS, which ended in a Green Bay Packers Hail Mary pass to top the Detroit Lions. The 8:30-11 p.m. game saw a total audience of 12.93 million.
