*You saw NBC’s “The Wiz Live!” last night and now you need the soundtrack in your life.
Sony Music Masterworks and Broadway Records are making it available Dec. 11 across all digital service providers (download and streaming), and the CD will be released on Dec. 18, the companies announced.
The album every song from the live production, including “Ease on Down the Road,” “A Brand New Day,” and of course, the Shanice Williams showstopper “Home,” which has been on sale as a single since Nov. 27. [See the album’s full tracklist below.]
Also included is the new song “We Got It,” written by cast member Ne-Yo, Harvey Mason Jr. and Stephen Oremus with cast member Elijah Kelley.
NBC’s highly-anticipated production of “The Wiz Live!” not only earned respectable ratings, drawing 11.1 million viewers, but beat NBC’s musical predecessor “Peter Pan Live.” That production, led by Brian Williams’ daughter Allison Williams, drew just 9.1 million in 2014. NBC’s 2013 musical “The Sound of Music Live” remains in first place, earning 18.6 million as broadcast TV’s first live musical staging in decades.
“The Wiz Live!” even managed to lure its 11.1 million against a “Thursday Night Football” thriller on CBS, which ended in a Green Bay Packers Hail Mary pass to top the Detroit Lions. The 8:30-11 p.m. game saw a total audience of 12.93 million.
