Drake’s OVO Launching in L.A. / T-Boz Hosting Sickle Cell Concert

tboz-drake*Drake’s line of owl-branded apparel, “October’s Very Own” (OVO), is opening a second flagship store in Los Angeles this weekend. A video announcement posted on the brand’s website features Drake, and reveals the doors will open at 11 a.m. PST on Dec. 5 at 130 N. La Brea Ave.

The “Hotline Bling” hitmaker jointly owns the label and clothing brand with manager Oliver El-Khatib and engineer and producer Noah “40.” The L.A. store follows the opening of the Toronto store last year.

As Complex notes, the OVO Blog began as an online platform for El-Khatib and other OVO associates in April 2008, but it soon became the platform to watch the steady rise of OVO frontman Drake.

“I want people to be a part of our movement, I just want it to be right,” Drake said back in a 2011 interview with Complex. “And everybody else wants me to make it with the cheaper fabric and put it in Macy’s and ‘Oh don’t worry we will make 100 million in the first year.’ Naw, fuck you, because that’s not what we are about. I’m not ready for OVO to be that. Because OVO is still something I represent.”

tboz-Sickle Cell Concert-concertT-Boz is also bringing a bit of holiday cheer to the west coast this weekend, when her second annual benefit concert for Sickle Cell anemia arrives in Hollywood on December 6.

Hosted by Zendaya, the lineup will include performances from SWV, Da Brat, Kat Ghram, KC & JoJo, Keri Hilson and more. Check out the flyer above.

The TLC member was diagnosed with the disease as a child, and has spent her adult life participating in a variety organizations and functions to promote awareness for years.

I was born this way,” she said. “So it makes me more relatable than the average celebrity.”

All proceeds from the event will go to the Sickle Cell Foundation. Last year’s event raised more than $55,000. T-Boz has been a part of the charity for years, saying “I love the work that they do and I know the money goes to a good cause,” she said. “It helps children and parents… It goes to a lot of things that people may not think about unless they’re ill.”
